NOSE SURGERY- RHINOPLASTY

The nose is the most offset, and as so, the most conspicuous point of the face. It has a major role in creating its character, its harmony. Its particularity may even give a certain charm to the person (like in Belmondo's case) but it can be bothering esthetically as well.

The first nose surgeries were done in 3000 BC which, along with the later "Indian" and "Italian" surgeries, were reconstructive operations.

Aesthetically, many differences of the nose might be bothering, even unacceptable to the person. The most common is the "bump" on the bridge, the wide nose, the extraordinary shape of the tip of the nose. The curved septum is not only esthetically disturbing, but may cause respiratory problems as well. The defects may be located on the bony or the cartilaginous parts of the nose.

With the modern surgical techniques it is possible to correct the alterations from within the nose, leaving no visible scars. If the nose was previously operated, or a birth defect is to be corrected a so called "open" surgery is necessary which leaves an almost invisible scar at the bottom.

During the first visit we can analyze the alteration by the help of a virtual image analyzing system and we can discuss the possible result of the correction. The main goal of the operation is that the nose should have a natural look, so the people shouldn't say "oh, it's an operated nose" by far.

The surgery is usually done in sedation, combined with local anesthesia. The procedure generally concerns equally the bony and the cartilaginous part of the nose. During the first 7-10 days brushings will develop around the eyes which will disappear without a trace. For a week a plaster cast is placed on the nose. The result is long lasting.
